JCU’s Fatima Food Drive has been a campus tradition since the mid-1990’s. Originally the project was part of the JCU Student Union’s Project Gold but now is coordinated by the Arrupe Scholars program. The drive raises funds and food donations to provide food baskets for 100 families associated with Cleveland’s Fatima Family Center. Food baskets include enough non-perishable items for the entire week of Thanksgiving, including a turkey and other Thanksgiving fixings.
JCU and Fatima partner on a number of projects throughout the school year including Fatima summer camp visits to JCU for educational and recreational programs, a summer work program, and the Streak Week Service Project.
The Fatima Family Center, a Catholic Charities sponsored organization, serves hundreds of people of all ages throughout east side neighborhoods, especially Hough. Located at E. 66th and Lexington, adjacent to old League Park (former stadium for the Cleveland Indians through the 1931), Fatima is working to be part of the revitalization of a very proud area of our city.
